My Beloved Spake
Based on a passage from Song of Songs, and featuring a baritone solo throughout much of the piece, this song is topically appropriate for weddings. Scored for divisi SATB choir, soprano and baritone soloists, and organ, the piece is metrically and harmonically straightforward, reminiscent of the English choral tradition of Holst and Vaughan Williams. Because of the large forces required and the frequent high notes in tenor and soprano parts, however, this piece is intended for more advanced choirs.
