A piece set mostly in 7/8 never felt so natural and untroubled as this setting of St. Teresa of Ávila’s text, which beautifully captures the speech-rhythms of the prayer. Kingsbury uses timbre to highlight a kind of call-and-response between the original Spanish text (sung by men at first) with its English translation (sung by women). Touching on topics of comfort, faith, and trust, this lush setting for SATB choir and piano is ideal as a post-Communion reflection or for healing prayer services.
