This bilingual treatment of a traditional Spanish song is intended to unify Spanish- and English-language Masses at a parish. It can be used as an entrance song, for the Way of the Cross, or during a Penance Service. Set for SATB choir, keyboard, guitar, and oboe, it has a lament topic but, textually, is a plea for God’s forgiveness and mercy. A Penitential Act with Invocations is also included in the octavo, which employs similar musical material.
