Board of Directors
For more than 90 years, OCP has faithfully and effectively responded to the needs of the Church—to the diverse and changing needs of parish communities and individual worshipers, in the U.S. and around the world.
The current members of the OCP Board of Directors, led by Archbishop Alexander K. Sample are:
Owen Alstott
Owen graduated from college with a B.A. in philosophy and graduated from the School of Theology in 1974. He also attended Willamette University for advanced studies in pipe organ, and Marylhurst College, working towards a degree in music. Owen worked for Oregon Catholic Press from 1976-1992 as Music Editor, Editor of Missal and Music Publications, and as Publisher. He moved to London in 1992, where he founded a company that publishes and distributes religious education materials. Owen is a prolific composer and has written many pieces published by Oregon Catholic Press, including Heritage Mass and Respond & Acclaim psalm settings. He is married to British composer Bernadette Farrell, and they have one daughter. Owen was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January 2015.
Fr. Pedro Arteaga
Fr. Pedro Arteaga was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1964 and graduated from the German College in Mexico City in 1984. He joined the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in 1985 and studied theology in Rome and Milan, Italy, and in Munich and Muenster, Germany. He also studied Catholic philosophy in Guadalajara, Mexico. Fr. Pedro currently serves as Provincial Superior of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. He previously served as pastoral assistant, associate pastor and senior pastor in parishes in Italy, Mexico and the U.S. Fr. Pedro also served as vocational director and spiritual assistant to several ecclesiastical movements. He worked as a missionary in Kinshasa, Congo and at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, where he was a formation director and professor.
Mary Augustyn
Mary received a B.S. in business administration from Oregon State University. She is a licensed certified public accountant and member of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mary is chief financial officer for the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) Ministries Corporation. Prior to joining SSMO, Mary served in leadership positions at ODS Health Plan, KPMG and Liberty Mutual. She has served audit clients in financial services, higher education, manufacturing, technology and various other industries and organizations, including the Archdiocese of Portland. Mary was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January 2016.
Philip J. Black
Technical Sergeant (retired) Philip J. Black is the Director of Music Ministries at Church of Our Savior in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he serves the needs of over 5,000 families and directs a traditional adult choir, two children’s choirs and a contemporary band. Mr. Black has been involved in music ministry from an early age. He was contracted as a musician and choir director for Catholic and Protestant faith communities throughout his military career until he was named Music Director at Patrick AFB from 2000 until 2006. In 2006, Mr. Black became the Director of Music Ministries at Church of Our Saviour in the Diocese of Orlando, Florida, where he has served for over 14 years. Phil was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January 2021.
Most Rev. Liam Cary
Bishop Cary graduated from Mount Angel Seminary high school and college, and attended St. Patricks Seminary in Menlo Park, CA, for a year before taking an 18-year leave of absence. Returning to the seminary in 1988, he was sent to the Pontifical North American College in Rome, where he received a licentiate in moral theology from Gregorian University in 1992, and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Portland in September of that year. He was ordained Bishop of Baker on May 18, 2012, and was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January 2013.
Duncan Hart
Duncan Hart has 30 years of leadership and management experience, working most recently in semiconductor operations, construction and facilities technology development. Currently, he is an adjunct professor of organizational development and management at Linfield College and a management consultant to non-profits. As a consultant, he provides business analysis support by inventorying and mapping critical business processes. He served in a variety of roles at Intel Corporation for many years. From 2012 to 2015, he was a program manager, and from 2007 to 2011, he was their global facilities business operations manager. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he also has a master’s in adult training and development from the University of Rhode Island. He is a long-time parishioner at Saint Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro and has served as head of the finance council there, in addition to involvement in music ministry. An avid mountaineer, he has summited many peaks, assisted on many group climbs as a leader and assistant, and is active with the Mazamas, a non-profit mountaineering education organization.
Myrna Keough
Myrna Keough is associate professor of music and the coordinator of music and liturgy at Mount Angel Seminary. She was born in Canada but raised in Germany. While attending the University of Regina (Canada), Myrna became an associate of the Royal Conservatory of Canada in piano performance (2000) and earned a bachelor’s degree in music and education (2004), subsequently earning a vocal performance diploma with first class honors from the Royal Conservatory (2005). Having begun her career as a high school music and English teacher, she became the director of liturgical music at the American College of the Immaculate Conception in Louvain (Belgium) before relocating to Oregon to assume her current position at Mount Angel Seminary. She has since earned a master's degree in theology at Mount Angel Seminary (2017) and is currently completing a doctoral program in sacred music from the Graduate Theological Foundation while also pursuing a doctor of ministry degree from Mount Angel Seminary. She enjoys sitting on the board of a local Catholic school, raising a family and serving weekly in the music ministry at two local parishes.
Rev. Hugo Maese
Fr. Hugo Maese is a Missionary of the Holy Spirit. He attended Mount Angel Seminary College, and was ordained a priest in 2005. Fr. Hugo received a Master of Divinity and M.A. from St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, CA. He served in parish ministry, as Vice Superior at St. Joseph House of Theology in South Bend, the Center for Research and Dissemination of the Spirituality of the Cross in Mexico City, and the Missionary of the Holy Spirit Formation House in Long Beach before being named Pastor at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro and Superior of the Missionary of the Holy Spirit Community. Fr. Hugo was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January 2017.
Colin McGinty
A native of the California Bay Area, Colin came to Portland in 1995 to attend the University of Portland. After graduation, he moved to Seattle where he worked in sales for three years. He returned to the University of Portland, where he worked for 15 years holding multiple roles — each focused on resource development for financial aid, program support and capital projects. He last served as Associate Athletic Director of Development, where he was responsible for leading fundraising initiatives supporting the University of Portland athletics — prospecting, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors on special and capital projects. He is currently the President of Central Catholic High School in Portland. Colin earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Portland in 1999 and later earned a master's degree in business administration in 2007.
Ed O’Hanlon
Ed O’Hanlon is a retired CPA and former partner of Bottaini, Galluci, and O’Hanlon, PC. He attended Madeleine School, Jesuit High School and the University of Santa Clara, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. A member of All Saints Catholic Church, he has served on the school board, the parish council and the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) board. He coached CYO for more than fifteen years and his children attended All Saints and Central Catholic High School. Ed has been the treasurer of Blanchet House of Hospitality and the Serra Club of Portland for close to 20 years. His accounting firm served several local non-profit organizations, including Mater Dei Radio and Mother and Child. Ed was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January, 2021.
Most Rev. Alexander K. Sample
Archbishop Alexander K. Sample is the eleventh bishop of the Archdiocese of Portland. He was ordained a priest June 1, 1990, and served in several parish assignments in Marquette, MI, before moving to Rome to earn a degree in Canon Law. Upon returning to Marquette he served the diocese in a number of capacities including as a member of the Marriage Tribunal, as chancellor, as a member of the College of Consultors and as director of the Department of Ministry Personnel Services. He was ordained Bishop of Marquette in January 2006, and was installed as Archbishop of Portland on April 2, 2013.
Agnes C. Zueger
Agnes C. Zueger is the Liturgy & Music Coordinator, Staff Musician and Ministry Coordinator at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church (OLL) in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she has served since 2015. Prior to her work at OLL, Agnes served for 38 years at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard, Oregon, first as the Music Ensemble Director before being promoted to Director of Music and Liturgy in 1995. She received her Master of Arts with an emphasis in choral conducting, ministry and liturgy from the University of Portland in 2009 and went on to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in gerontology with an emphasis in end of life care and support from Portland Community College in 2019. Agnes was appointed to the OCP Board of Directors in January, 2021.
