The Lord Is My Shepherd

A vivid and unusual take on Psalm 23, White’s The Lord Is My Shepherd, for SATB choir and keyboard, is full of remarkable text painting. The piece travels from key to key as, in the text, we rest beside still waters, are led in paths of righteousness, and walk through the darkest valley; on “my cup overflows,” the choir sings rapidly descending triplets. When, at last, “I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long,” we come to a gentle, tranquil conclusion.
