The inspiration behind God So Loved the World

The inspiration of God So Loved the World

Let's be honest, the phrase “God so loved the world” has become rather cliché! Who hasn't stumbled upon this overused Scripture more than enough times? I've heard it in prayers and at sporting events, seen it on billboards and on the walls at restaurants, read it on bumper stickers and at least a hundred T-shirts — all proclaiming John 3:16. This verse is everywhere.

So this begs the question, Why then, did I write another “God so loved the world” song, and subsequently, make it the title of my most recent collection?

It all started after a Saturday evening liturgy on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. I was driving home from Mass and thinking about the Gospel reading I had just heard:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” – John 3:16

I remember thinking about how that reality has shaped humanity. I live in a country (the United States) whose founding was deeply shaped by Christian values. Institutions such as hospitals, schools and charities exist all around us because someone, somewhere had the light of Christ burning inside them and wanted to make a difference in this world.

While the title song focuses on the fact that the Church exists because God showed that he loved the world through Jesus, the truth is, God has always loved the world through all things — from the smallest atomic particle to the most distant galaxy. This collection of music focuses on that profound reality. It reminds us of all that we have been given, and it challenges us to respond in service, charity and love.

It is my sincere hope that this album will move listeners to give, serve and love in heroic ways!

Have a blessed day,
Chris
