Bio
Stephen M. Lee, a native of Washington, D.C., first studied music composition during his senior year in high school with the late Hortense Taylor, while enrolled in the Heights Guided Research Program. He continued on to Loyola University, New Orleans where he received a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in 1982. In 1996, Stephen earned a Masters of Arts in Church Music from the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, Georgia.Among his many accomplishments, Stephen has published gospel arrangements of 17 African-American Spirituals and a gospel Catholic mass in the 1999 Canadian publication: Spirit Anew, Singing Prayer and Praise , Wood Lake Books. His post-Katrina work, entitled: Stand by Me has been featured in national and international conferences as well as in the 2008 film documentary on Hurricane Katrina entitled, “Not Broken.”
Stephen has served as Adjunct Professor of Music Therapy at Loyola University, New Orleans, Louisiana. He published Mass of Freedom with OCP in 2012.
Stephen, his wife and their three children currently reside in Douglasville, Georgia.
