As a River of Light

As a River of Light

Reenact the story of Christ’s Passion in this musical drama based on Luke’s Gospel.
collections/dg/237

A powerful restatement of the meaning of Christianity, As a River of Light is a musical drama based on the Gospel of Luke with music by Jesuit Father John Foley and lyrics/text from Michael Dennis Browne. Father Foley’s music is challenging and yet attractive, and the interplay between music and spoke text is essential. Rendered by poet Michael Dennis Browne into contemporary language for four narrators, the story of Jesus’s Passion is beautifully brought to life.

Lending itself to both highly ambitious and simple but dramatic realizations (or anything in between), As a River of Light can easily be adapted to your community depending on your available resources and the type of production desired.

The full-score accompaniment includes parts for string quartet, piano and flutes, while the choral edition provides voicing for SATB choir. The CD features recordings for the narrators and each of the songs and can be a great tool for learning the various parts and getting a sense of how the performance should flow as a continuous drama.
